Android 9 Pie, the latest iteration of Android OS was launched by Google back in August this year. Google Pixel and Nexus devices were the first smartphones to receive the latest version which were followed by Nokia devices and Essential Phone. These devices were followed by other smartphones from major smartphone makers and now its turn for Sony Xperia devices to receive the latest update.
The Sony Xperia devices which are now receiving the Android 9 Pie update are Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ Compact, and the Xperia XZ Premium. While it was earlier announced that these devices would receive the latest Android update on October 26, 2018, Sony had to push back the release date in order to fix some bugs that came up just before the rollout. While the Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact had already received the Android 9 Pie update earlier, the Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ Compact, and Xperia XZ Premium are finally receiving the update after a delay of around 2 weeks.
The latest Android update comes with build number 47.2.A.0.306 and it brings the Android Security patch for the month of October as well. The update also brings a host of new features along with a new camera interface, HDR video image enhancements, full HD 960p slow-motion video recording capabilities and more. However, the Android 9 Pie based navigational gestures which are now available on premium smartphones have not been rolled out with this update.
Sony has announced that this update is being rolled out in a phased manner in the form of OTA so it will take a few days for all the users to receive the same. Users can also manually check for the update by heading to Settings> Software Updates and in case it is not available now, it will arrive within the next couple of days and the users will be notified thereon.
