After much debate and controversies, the Chinese smartphone making brand OnePlus has finally decided to skip the numeral ‘4’ in their upcoming flagship smartphone and will release the handset with the name OnePlus 5. The number ‘4’ is considered as unlucky in the Chinese tradition and hence the decision. OnePlus has also confirmed the forthcoming smartphone will be launched in this Summer, preferably in June, although the exact release date is yet unknown. So as the OnePlus 5 launch date is gradually coming close, various leaks have started surfacing on the internet. Among those, the most notable one is that the OnePlus would feature a mammoth 8GB of RAM under the hood.
Albeit, the previous rumours suggested that the upcoming flagship device would come with a 6GB of RAM, according to a leaked screenshot from Weibo, the Twitter counterpart of China, the OnePlus 5 is going to sport 8GB of RAM, coupled with 128GB of internal storage capacity. The leak also suggests that the phone will run on the Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system with the company’s very own HydrogenOS (the Chinese edition of the OxygenOS) skinned top of it.
Another report from AndroidPure indicates that the OnePlus 5 would be released in two memory variants- 8GB of RAM clubbed with 128GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM coupled with 64GB of built-in storage.But, as the Chinese tech conglomerate has not announced anything officially, question marks lingering over the authenticity of the news.
As of now, the OnePlus 5 is pegged to flaunt a 5.5-inch quad-HD display with the pixel resolution of 1440×2560 pixels. The upcoming handset would be powered by the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset. On the optic front, the OnePlus 5 is rumoured to sport a dual-lens camera setup at the back featuring a couple of 12-megapixel sensors (standard RGB + monochrome). On the front, the device is expected to sport an 8-megapixel selfie camera unlike its immediate predecessor, OnePlus 3T, which comes with a 16-megapixel front camera.
