Reliance Communications, or RCOM, has launched a new unlimited voice calling plan at Rs 149 which will work on any all networks across India and will also include STD calls.. Reliance is also offering 300 MB of data with the plan across 2G, 3G and 4G connectivity. In a clear market expansion bid, primarily targeting the sizeable pool of 2G users, Reliance also says the ‘149 Unlimited‘ plan will be applicable regardless of the type of feature phone or smartphone used and RCOM customers can make unlimited voice calls, including STD calls for a month to any phone on any network in India.
In a statement, Gurdeep Singh, Co-CEO, Reliance Communications and CEO of RCOM’s Consumer Business, stated,“Our new pioneering yet simple unlimited plan has the potential to trigger a paradigm shift in the way Indians recharge their mobile phones, creating a significant shift in the telecom market-as it moves away from the ‘Unit Rate’ charging regime to a ‘Single Recharge and Unlimited Usage’ regime. There are still hundreds of millions of older 2G handset-owners in India, and R-COM is positioning the unique plan to migrate these customers to its network, along with 300 MB of data usage. And with RCOM’s high-speed add-on data plans, ‘149 Unlimited’ will also appeal to data-heavy 3G and 4G customers, who will benefit from unlimited calling talk-time.”
RCOM’s Rs 149 bucket plan resembles a similar Reliance Jio tariff plan, but can be activated on any phone as stated- 2G, 3G, or 4G — unlike Jio’s, which requires a 4G VoLTE enabled handsets. It must be mentioned here that Jio is a brand owned by Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries Limited, or RIL, while Reliance Communications or RCOM is owned by the younger brother, Anil Ambani through the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, or ADAG.
An unlimited plan will see millions of Indians benefit, and help RCOM ramp up its customer base and engage with higher-value customers and greater ARPUs (average revenue per users). Reliance Communications recently launched its ‘RGC India’ app for international calling. The Reliance Global Call service is available to all mobile phone and land-line users of the country— including prepaid and post-paid subscribers on the networks of Reliance, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Tata, Aircel and service providers like MTS. The ‘RGC India’ app enables direct-dialing of international contacts with rates starting at Rs 1.4 per minute.
The new tariff plan has gone online in 17 RCOM circles, and will not be available in the five eastern markets — West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Assam and Northeast — where the company does not own any 2G spectrum.
