Gionee unveiled its new flagship smartphone – Gionee S8 at MWC 2016 in Barcelona, Spain. The smartphone features 3D Touch pressure sensitive display which is said to be same as that of iPhone and apparently will function same as the new iPhone models. During the launch, the company also revealed a new logo, plus a tagline that says, “Make Smiles.” The device will come in three colours – Rose Gold, Silver, and Gold and is priced at $495 (approximately Rs. 34,000). The device will go on sale from March 2016.
The phone comes with a 5.50-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels, full-HD Amoled display with narrow bezels measuring 0.75mm. The 3D Touch being the greatest highlight of the smartphone, its worth noting that the device can sense 3 levels of force – one to select the app, another that previews apps and lastly, the touch that runs the app. The display thickness is 0.693mm which is pretty commendable.

Another highlight is its loop metal design. The device is 74.9mm wide which according to Gionee is the narrowest widths for a 5.5-inch phone. It has a integrated a fingerprint sensor in the home button. Its powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor and comes with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone is clubbed with 64GB of inbuilt storage and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The Gionee S8 comes with 8-megapixel front camera and 16-megapixel rear camera with aser autofocus, LED flash, f/1.8 aperture and PDAF. As for connectivity, it supports 4G+ and dual-SIM (GSM and GSM). the device also comes with unique attractive features like ‘Dual WhatsApp’ and ‘Dual WeChat’ that’ll enables users to create two different Whatsapp accounts at the same time.

The device runs on 3000mAh battery and supports dual 4G, FDD, and TDD, 16 bands and 7 modes that’ll make the phone ideal for global roaming. Some of the other features to lookout for are – text recognition (OCR) support (English and Chinese), time lapse, video that comes with beauty effects and Slow mo.
