Moto Z Play Leaked Images, Release Date, Rumoured Specs

Lenovo-owned Motorola is yet to announce the next phone in the Moto Z series after it announced the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force back in June. But any lack of official authentication has hardly ever been an impediment for new information in case of upcoming smartphones. In this case, we have access to new info about the upcoming Moto Z Play, thanks to a number of image and spec leaks.

GSM Arena reports that a recently released batch of images allegedly featuring the Moto Z Play have surfaced on the internet, and they showcase the upcoming device in two different colour variations. Design wise, the new phone looks like it will follow in the footsteps of the other phones in the series. But while there is not much of a difference between the front profile of the Moto Z Play, Moto Z and the Moto Z Force, a pretty noticeable distinctive feature marks the back of the device. As it appears from the recent pictures, the Moto Z Play will feature a back made of glass, as opposed to the metal backsides of the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force.

This new leak along with an earlier one also reveal two of the possible colour options for the Moto Z Play, and they showed off the phone in a black and a white version. The photos also suggest that the phone will pack in some of the external features of its higher-end siblings, like a fingerprint scanner in front and a dual LED flash equipped camera as well as the magnetic connectors for Moto Mods at the back, despite the device reportedly targeting a middle-range budget.

According to several reports, the upcoming smartphone has also passed through the Chinese regulatory agency, TENAA. The listing revealed some of the key specifications of the Moto Z Play, which include a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 625 chipset, Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB of RAM coupled with 64 GB off internal storage, 16-megapixel primary camera, 5-megapixel front camera, and a battery capacity 3,510mAh. It is likely to run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and be compatible with Moto Mods.

We are yet unsure of the official Moto Z Play release date, but it appears that the new smartphone is nearing its launch if we are to go by the listing. The phone is widely speculated to make its debut appearance at the IFA 2016.
