Amazon has introduced a new addition to its line of voice-enabled Echo speakers. The new generation Echo Dot, which succeeds the earlier Echo Dot device and packs in updated features is now available for pre-order for the meagre price of $50.
To look back at the original Echo, it was introduced by the company as a speaker device that was capable of performing almost any task around the house, including playing music, order stuff, and even provide updates about weather conditions. The Alexa powered smart device’s successor, the earlier Echo Dot, was a smaller, handier device which could be used in conjunction with the Echo.
The all new Echo Dot now stands as an even sleeker device which comes at a price that stands at almost half compared to its earlier counterparts. It comes with a total of seven microphones and also features a noise-cancelling technology which makes it easier for users to instruct it from across the room despite the presence of ambient sound. The new device also comes with an improved speech processing system which gives a considerable boost to its speech recognition accuracy even across distances. The new Echo Dot also possesses a 3.5 mm jack as well as Bluetooth connectivity, that will let users connect it to any audio-playing devices in their homes. It is capable of learning and adapting to its environment, making it more responsive to user’s speech patterns and overall preferences.
The new Echo Dot largely retains most of the functionalities of the original Echo, like switching lights on or off with compatible systems, ordering rides for users, playing music, giving updates about the weather, and acting as a smart alarm clock, along with all the other skills that the Alexa packs in. The platform is also in the process of getting some added boosts from the company’s partnerships with several third-party developers.
The brand new Echo Dot will be available for $50 in two colour options, Black, and White. It will begin shipping in October.
