As the world gets closer to the assumed launch date of the Samsung Galaxy S8, enthusiasts are busily monitoring the upcoming smartphone’s every move online. The latest piece of information that has gone public is that the device has cleared 3C certification in China under the model number SM-G9500. To be clear, this model number pertains specifically to the standard variant of the Galaxy S8, while that of the larger Galaxy S8 Plus was revealed earlier when the devices had cleared FCC just days ago.
The new certification does not disclose any juicy new details about Samsung‘s upcoming high-end flagship, but there has been no dearth of information about the same thanks to a bunch of recent leaks. Going by these, it is safe to say that Samsung has been hard at work to put their Note 7 days behind them. One of the first notable bits of news regarding the Samsung Galaxy S8 was that the new smartphone would be equipped with a powerful processor to power a top of the line camera unit. It has now been confirmed that the handsets will be fitted with the most awaited chipset from Qualcomm yet- the Snapdragon 835. This will come coupled with 4GB of RAM, although an updated Exynos processor could replace the SD SoC in select regions.
But the main point of concern for many remains the battery unit, which was the cause for significant peril for the South Korean tech giants with their last year’s Note variant. To ensure extra safety on that front, Samsung has reportedly struck a deal with Sony to manufacture batteries for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. Both Samsung SDI and ATL also remain on board. However, battery capacity will apparently remain the same as last year’s S7 models.
Besides the battery, there is a lot of interesting rumors about Samsung’s next offering. Both the 5.8-ich and 6.2-inch variants will come with the dual edge display that Samsung seeks to make official for their more expensive flagships. Expect the display to be flanked by smaller bezels at the top and bottom. On the camera front, the rear unit will be a dual-Pixel 12MP one while the secondary shooter is expected to be hiked up to 8MP.
Also, with Samsung aiming to rival Apple’s long-awaited anniversary edition iPhone, the Galaxy S8 is rumored to feature a new AI voice companion called Bixby. However, Samsung has not opted for a radical redesigning unlike the iPhone 7, as the inclusion of the 3.5mm headphone jack indicates.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 will arrive in a slew of modern color options at an event on March 29, and availability will commence from late April. Expect the smartphone to boast of some remarkable new features like an iris scanner and an IP68 certification.
