The Indian tech giant Jio has started delivering the much-awaited 6 millions units of Jio Phone booked back in August. According to a report by the news agency PTI, the customers in small cities and rural areas will get the device before the customers live in urban area and big cities. A Reliance Jio channel partner has also assured that the rollout of the Jio Phones will be completed within 15 days. A Jio official tweeted that the deliveries of the smartphones have started in a phased manner so that the company can avoid inconvenience.
Moreover, that official, who is unwilling to disclose his name has also stated that the customers who have pre-booked the handset will get it before the Diwali, which falls on 19th October, this year. Earlier, the company said that the customers will know the status and the delivery date of the Jio Phone through the SMSes. That channel partner said, “The Chairman (Mukesh Ambani) had said that the JioPhone will bridge the digital divide between rural and urban India. Therefore, delivery of JioPhone will start this Sunday in rural areas and small towns,”
To remind you, the prebooking of the Jio Phone was started on 24th August and within a day and a half, the company reached 6 million targets and shut down the pre-booking. The customers who made the pre-booking had to give Rs. 500 during the time of booking and have to pay Rs. 1000 more while they get the handset. The entire Rs. 1500 will be refunded after three years when the customers return the handset. If they fail to do so, they will not get back the money.
On the specifications front, the Jio Phone will sport a 2.40-inch with the pixel resolution of 240×320 pixels. Under the hood, this rudimentary smartphone houses a 1.2GHz dual-core processor coupled with 512MB RAM and 4 GB of internal storage. The Jio Phone runs on KAI OS, sports a 2-megapixel snapper at the rear end and a 0.3-megapixel shooter on the front side. The Chairman of the Reliance Jio, Mukesh Ambani has announced that voice calling on Jio Phone would always be free and the customers would get unlimited data against Rs. 153 for a month.
