Motorola is one of those brands that are known for providing timely software updates to its customers. But of late, the company has failed to live up to the expectations in this regard as many of its current range of smartphones are yet to receive the latest Android software updates.
However, the Moto G5 smartphone that was launched last year may soon receive the Android 8.1 Oreo update courtesy of a Geekbench listing. The listing shows the Moto G5 to run on Android 8.1 Oreo flavor. But as of now, Motorola has not provided any detail about the rollout of the latest Android update and how it would be made available.
As per speculations, however, the latest update may be rolled out after the launch of the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play in India on June 4. The Moto G6 and the Moto G6 Play will be available exclusively on Amazon and Flipkart respectively from the aforementioned date. Alongside the Moto G5, the Moto G5 Plus and the Moto G5 Play are also expected to receive the Android 8.1 update.
The Moto G5 was an entry-level smartphone with a metal unibody design running on stock Android out of the box. Recently the price of the Moto G5 was also brought down to Rs 9,999 probably to clear stocks before the Moto G6 launch.
To recall the specs in greater detail, the Moto G5 comes with a 5-inch HD display screen with a resolution of 1080 X 1920 pixels. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.4GHz octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone offers 16GB of inbuilt storage space that can be further upgraded with the help of a micro-SD card. The smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies.
Running on Android 7.0 Nougat, the smartphone is powered by a 2,800mAh battery. Connectivity options on the smartphone include dual-SIM 4G VoLTE, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG and FM Radio.
