Apple iPhone XR with 6.1-inch LCD Display and Notch Launched

Apple launched three new iPhone models at the scheduled launch event held at the Steve Jobs theatre yesterday. The models were named Apple iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. While the iphone XS Max and iPhone XS are premium devices for the high-end market, the Apple iPhone XR is an affordable variant and comes with a 6.1-inch LCD display panel instead of the customary OLED panels. Unlike the other two models, the iPhone XR also sports an edge-to-edge display with a notch like the one found on Apple iPhone X launched last year.

Coming to the price, the Apple iPhone XR costs $749, $799 and $899 for the 64GB, 128GB and 256GB variants respectively. For India, the starting price of the iPhone XR is at Rs 76,900 for the 64GB variant. The iPhone XR will be available for pre-order from October 19 while it will start to ship in over 50 countries including India from October 26 onwards. The device will be available in a variety of color options like Black, Blue, Coral White, and Yellow.

Coming to the specifications, the iPhone XR being an affordable variant sports a 6.1-inch LCD Super Retina display. It features a notch on the top that houses the TrueDepth Camera system and also enables the Face ID functionality. The device does not feature the 3D Touch functionality that was first unveiled on the iPhone 6s and instead features a Haptic Touch that will enable the users to launch the camera or flashlight instantaneously by touching the home screen. Apart from the physical first SIM, a second SIM support will be provided via eSIM with Airtel and Reliance Jio confirmed as telecom partners in India.

On the camera front, the Apple iPhone XR features a single 12-megapixel sensor on the rear panel that is equipped with a 6-piece lens and 2x optical zoom. There is also a quad-LED True Tone flash on the rear panel to provide low light imaging support. On the front, it features a 7-megapixel sensor for selfies. It is powered by Apple A12 Bionic chips and is available in three storage options of 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. It runs on Apple iOS 12 out of the box.
