Alongside the 2018 iPhone models which include iphone XS, iPhone XS Max, and the affordable iPhone XR, Apple has also launched its latest series of wearable devices. Called Apple Watch Series 4, the new smartwatch comes with a new design, larger display, and additional functionalities than its predecessors. It features an ECG functionality for the first time that has been given a “De Nova: classification by US FDA. Some of the other major highlights include a ceramic body, swim-proof capabilities, optical heart sensor and more.
Coming to the price, the Apple Watch Series 4 comes with a price tag of $399 for the GPS only, non-cellular variant and $499 for GPs and Cellular capabilities. The latest series of smartwatches from Apple will be available for pre-orders starting from September 14 and will start to ship from September 21 in 26 countries of the world. Apple has also announced that its new watchOS 5 will be available to its range of smartwatches starting September 17.
Coming to the color options, it will be available in three Aluminum finishes along with a brand new Gold stainless finish and Silver and Space Gray options. Notably, the Apple Watch Series 3 has received a price cut and is now available at $279. The price details of the Apple Watch Series 4 in India has not been revealed by the company yet.
Talking about the specifications, the Apple Watch Series 4 features a 30% larger display than its predecessor and comes with 40mm and 44mm cases options. In terms of design, it is quite similar to last year’s Apple Watch Series 3 except for the near edge-to-edge display and a new placement of its microphone.
It is powered by the latest Apple S4 SoC which contains a 64-bit dual core processor and a new GPU that is at least two times faster than the one found on its predecessor. The Apple Watch Series 4 also gets a superior gyroscope and a digital accelerometer.
The device also comes with a built-in falls detector that can alert emergency services on its own and is also equipped with ECG capability. Other additions include alerts for atrial fibrillation and low heart rate. The device is touted to be swim-proof and also features Bluetooth v5.0 support. It is powered by the latest watchOS 5.
