Xiaomi Mi 6: Xiaomi has made an enduring name for itself over the past couple of years despite its relatively short stint on the market. But while Xiaomi has carved a niche for themselves in multiple areas, the Chinese consumer electronics company is still identified by its smartphones. And needless to say, speculations are rife about a number of these believed to be lined up for 2017. Among these, the Xiaomi Mi 6 warrants special mention.
The smartphone that is expected to come out by the first half of the current year figures high on the list of the most anticipated devices of 2017. But what makes it so special is that it will stay true to Xiaomi‘s signature motto of delivering the latest and greatest in mobile technology and trends at prices that do not tend to burn a hole in your pocket. In this particular case, the Mi 6 is expected to come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset, the powerful new technology that will also power the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8, expected to come out on March 29.
But that’s not all that the rumor mills have managed to churn up. In fact, the latest bit of news about the Xiaomi Mi 6 has to do with the upcoming iteration’s build, and if rumors are to be believed, then we are looking at the possibility of a ceramic variant of the Mi 6. And while rumors are always to be taken with a healthy pinch of salt, this one comes straight from a noted Chinese analyst who went public with his prediction on popular Chinese platform Weibo.
Another notable thing that he points out is that the decision to go ceramic on behalf of Xiaomi could be in anticipation of a ceramic bodied iPhone from Apple this year. The latter possibility was first suggested in the aftermath of the zirconia ceramic Apple Watch 2, which made the device considerably stronger and more resistant to scratches. But Xiaomi has already adopted a ceramic build for some of their previous smartphones, so this rumor may take a turn towards the truth.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 is expected to be launched sometime during April 2017 in China. Expect the smartphone to come in at least three variants, two of them with the SD 835 with RAM options of 6GB and 4GB, and the other with a MediaTek Helio X30 SOC (with 4GB RAM). In terms of the display, the Mi 6 may come in two sizes of 5.2 and 5.7-inches, with the bigger one sporting a dual curved OLED display. The smartphone will be backed by a 3000mAh battery and will run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. More will be known when the Mi 6 is made official in China.
