It now seems that Xiaomi, the popular Chinese electronics major, is planning to plunge into the world of laptops, but with a twist. This is in ln with what the company has always been known for- its unique ability to combine function with a hint of difference. Last week, we had informed you that a new series of Windows 10 PCs with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipsets was on the way. Now, Xiaomi seems to be one of the first ones actually interested in investing in this idea.
According to the report by Fudzilla, not only will Xiaomi’s next-generation smartphones be powered by the SD 845, their own Windows 10 PCs too will have the same power source underlying it. Around this time last year, Xiaomi had launched the Mi Notebook Air, its first ever laptop. A 4G SIM card slot was later added to this model as a further update and it was renamed. Now, with the Snapdragon 845 powering its devices, it seems that Xiaomi will prove to be quite a handful.
As of now, Xiaomi laptops are run on the latest Intel processors while these laptops are limited only to the Chinese market, which is its domestic market. While a few laptops do make it to the international markets, Xiaomi’s laptops have earned popularity in a market with so many players. The Mi Notebook models also offer a Gigabit LTE connectivity besides an enviable battery life too.
As we have reported before, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC will be one of the most powerful processors ever built. While HP and ASUS, with the Envy X2 and the NovaGo respectively, have already declared the Snapdragon-based PCs with an always-on feature, this is the first time that Xiaomi has done so. Only time shall tell whether this gamble by Xiaomi pays off. It could certainly lower the price, however.
